Residence Permit for Study

Residence permit for study

If you are a non-EU/EFTA student at TU Delft on a residence permit for study, some rules and procedures apply to you in addition to general regulations for TU Delft students. These rules are determined by Dutch Law and the IND (Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Services). Through this page you will find the requirements for holders of a residence permit for study during their stay in the Netherlands; including additional information, such as which actions are expected from you if your situation changes.

If you are an incoming student in the process of applying for a MVV Visa and/or residence permit to start your studies at TU Delft, please refer to this page for details pertaining to your situation.

General requirements

If you are a non-EU/EFTA student at TU Delft on a residence permit for study, there are several requirements that you are obliged to meet for the entire duration of your residence, as determined by the IND (Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Services). As long as you meet these requirements, your residence permit is valid for the nominal duration of your study programme and three months after. If you do not comply with these conditions, your residence permit will be revoked by the IND. TU Delft cannot change these regulations nor make an exception. The requirements are:

  1. You need to meet the MoMi study progress requirement  yearly.
  2. You are obliged to remain registered as a full-time degree student at TU Delft at all times.
  3. You need to have sufficient financial resources to cover tuition fee and living costs yearly. The IND determines the required monthly amount of income for student living costs in addition to tuition fees; this is called the study norm.
  4. You need to have sufficient health insurance.
  5. You need to be registered with your Dutch home address in the BRP (Personal Records Database) at the municipality at all times.
  6. If you reside outside the Netherlands for an internship, thesis or exchange, this is allowed for a maximum of 1 year as long as your residence permit is valid. If you reside outside the Netherlands for other reasons, you have to return to the Netherlands within 6 months.

Exchange students at TU Delft are exempted from these first two requirements.

If you experience any problems that may put your ability to meet any of these residence requirements at risk, please get in touch with your academic counsellor as soon as possible.
