Extend Residence Rermit

Your residence permit for study is valid for the nominal duration of your degree programme and three months after. In case of study delay, or if you continue your education at TU Delft after completing a study programme in the Netherlands prior, your residence permit may expire on November 30th. As a student at TU Delft, you are required to initiate the process for TU Delft to apply for your residence permit extension at the IND. For this process, you are required to supply several documents and pay the IND application fee to the TU Delft. Once the IND approves your application, your residence permit is usually valid for one more year.

Extension process

Please collect the following documents and send these as a PDF to momi-esa@tudelft.nl between September 1st and November 20th:

  1. The Antecedents certificate
  2. Declaration for Study residence permit
  3. Copy of all stamped and stickered pages of your passport, including the page with your signature
  4. Copy of your current residence permit (front side and back)

Review of documents for extensions starts in October. Once the documents are reviewed and approved, you will receive payment instructions to fulfil the IND application fee to TU Delft. When we have received your payment TU Delft will submit your application at the IND and send you confirmation of this. From this moment, you can make an appointment at IND to supply the biometric data required for your new permit. It may take up to 60 days before your new permit is ready.

 

As soon as your new residence permit card is ready, we will inform you, so you can collect your new permit at the IND. After you collected your residence permit, please send a copy of the card (front and back – in pdf format) to contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl, citing your student number.

During the review period

  • If your current residence permit expires during this 1-3 month waiting period, please do not worry. The fact that we have applied for an extension allows you to stay legally in the Netherlands until you receive an outcome on your application.
  • If you travel abroad before collecting your new residence permit, you may need to make an appointment with the IND to apply for a return visa. Please review the IND’s website for more information and note that any additional costs for this visa are at your own expense.

Residence permit lost or stolen

Your Dutch study residence permit card is owned by the Dutch Immigration Office (IND), so it's important to take care of it. If you do find your residence permit card lost or stolen during your stay, you need to individually follow these instructions as outlined by the IND; TU Delft cannot submit an application for you in these cases. Please be aware that this process includes a police report, application fee and decision period. After collecting your new permit, please send a copy of the new document (front and back – in pdf format) to contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl.
