Gap Period

As a non-EU/EFTA student you may want to interrupt your studies and continue at a later point in time, resulting in a gap period. There are some actions and consequences you need to consider during both termination of enrolment now, and your re-enrolment later on.

Termination of enrolment

You can terminate your enrolment unenrolment through Studielink. General information on unenrolment can be found here

TU Delft will inform the IND of your enrolment termination. After our notification, the IND will give you 3 months starting from the graduation date/end date of your exchange programme or until the expiry date on your card, whichever comes first.

If you unenroll during the academic year, please be aware that the MoMi study progress requirement applies to the months in which you have been enrolled, and this matter will be of consequence once you re-enrol. It is not possible to enrol at TU Delft again with a negative status in your file. If an excusable reason applies, you can submit an exemption request either before departure or when you want to re-enrol. Please get in touch with your academic counsellor before your departure.

Enrolment

Once you are ready to enrol again, please follow these steps:

  1. You can resume your studies at the beginning of the fall semester (first week of September). If you wish to start in the spring semester (first week of February), you need approval from your faculty. Please note that not all faculties allow a spring start date.
  2. Submit a new enrolment request for your studies in Studielink.
  3. Afterwards, send an e-mail to contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl about your return at least 3 months before your expected arrival.
  4. If you did not meet the MoMi study progress requirement [insert page id] before departure and have not yet submitted the required documents for an exemption, please do this immediately. TU Delft cannot sponsor your residence permit as long as a negative study progress status remains in your file. Consequently, we cannot apply for your MVV Visa and/or residence permit unless an exemption is granted.
  5. You will have to start the process of applying for a MVV Visa and/or residence permit anew, and the IND requires you to provide proof of sufficient financial resources to cover tuition fee for the remainder of the academic year and living costs for twelve months. Therefore you have to transfer the due tuition fee and living cost  at once at the TU Delft, as you did at the time of your first arrival in the Netherlands.

After your total payment has been received, your application will be reviewed and once approved submitted to the IND. From this moment, you will follow the regular application process; please refer to tudelft.nl/visa for more information.
