Multi Disciplinary Project: Sea Turtles in Costa Rica

The main goals of the research where to identify the variability of the beach profile and composition by doing fieldwork and by constructing a model that is able to predict the chances of an arribada on a specific day.

Policy Packaging 4 cities

To extend their research on policy packaging, four students from the faculty of TPM traveled to four cities in Europe. They investigated the extent to which public authorities are integrating (in this case) mobility policies, both on paper as well as in reality.

Project SOWETO

Four students travelled to Nairobi, Kenya to perform tests on their ‘businness-in-a-box’ concept, which turned out to be very successful and now they are promoting the concept to gain more attention among the young inhabitants of Nairobi.

Probalistic Assessment for the Safety of the Afobaka Dam, Suriname

Maarten Kroll visited the poorly maintained Afobaka dam in Suriname to create a probalistic assessment for the safety of the dam.

Research project on arsenic removal in drinking water in Costa Rica

For her Bachelor thesis, Desiree went to Costa Rica to do research on arsenic removal in drinking water at the Tecnológico de Costa Rica.

Plastic Identification Anywhere

Jerry is building a prototype for his Plastic Scanner, which can identify the 5 most common plastics and help hand sorters at the front lines of plastic recycling.

Multi disciplinairy Project - Pantai Project Bali

Sanne, Ervan, Gijs, Josephine, Hendrikus and Anthonie contributed in a research to reduce the production of plastic waste in Bali as a part of their multi disclipinary project.

Smallholder farmers in Ethiopia

For his thesis in watermanagement, Ludo conducted research on the climate adaptive behaviour of smallholder farmers in the Gumera subbasin, Ethiopia.

Shared Heritage Lab in Semarang, Indonesia

The shared heritage lab is a multidisciplinary, international research collaboration that focuses on the urban, environmental, architectural and social fabric of Semarang, Indonesia.

Field Research Macababe, the Philippines

Reji and Wietse did research on the construction of sustainable amphibious buildings in the flood-prone areas of South-East Asia.

Safe and clean drinking water in Costa Rica

Three students went to Costa Rica to continue research on removal of manganese and arsenic out of groundwater. They did research on developing a full-scale plant.

Multidisciplinary project in Havana, Cuba

This project was executed by 5 master students who made numerical models that gave insight to the hydrodynamic conditions near a thermo-electric plant along the coast in the region Matanzas (Havana, Cuba) and look at flooding situations.

Project Dagaa

Project Dagaa designed a sustainable fish drying solution for the fishing community around Lake Victoria, Tanzania to achieve food security, boost the local economy and establish positive social impact.

Trans-disciplinary collaboration in the Mexican healthcare context

Regina went to Mexico City to contribute to a COVID-19 research project on how actors from different disciplines work together within healthcare initiatives.

Thesis Research Vacuum-Assisted Closure Device For Low-Resource Settings

In collaboration with Green Pastures Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal, Lisa van de Weerd redesigned a prototype for a vacuum-assisted closure device, which is now ready for clinical settings.

Thesis Field Research Watamu, Kenya

Leander conducted research for his Master’s Thesis in Design for Interaction at the IDE faculty in Watamu, Kenya. Collaborating with a local NGO called EcoWorld, he investigated the collection and recycling of plastic waste, with a focus on empowering local women and youth in the emerging economy.

C-Spec

SUM

SUM is a project developed, by architecture students, that can transform 847.000 underperforming post-war tenement flats into net-positive and future-proof houses for all. With FAST, they want to spread their concept among industry partners and will perform viability studies for the redevelopment of several post-war neighborhoods in the Netherlands.

Panestry tiles

The Panestry roof-tile purifies the air, increases biodiversity, diminishes the urban-heat-island effect, keeps houses cool and relieves drainage problems. Panestry aims to roll out a tapestry of moss over pitched roofs.

Tech for Girls!

This year, Femion, the women+ committee of the Society for Engineering Physics, organized an engineering afternoon for girls+ for the first time with the help of FAST. The purpose of this afternoon was to allow girls+, who have reached the end of elementary school, to experience a fun afternoon full of technical challenges.

Symposium on wellbeing

On March 19, a Delft student association organized a symposium for all students in Delft with the help of FAST's Event grant.

Yiiya documentary

Two industrial design students went to Uganda to make a documentary about what design means in low-resource settings. The documentary "Yiiya" presents a critical perspective on Uganda's current import culture. What is the value of incoming foreign products if they are not adapted to the Ugandan context? Local designers and craftsmen look ahead and reflect on the future of product design in Uganda.

Festable

These students organized a festival combined with activities to make participants more aware of the importance of sustainability in a fun and trendy way.

CHAKO

Jamil, Sandy and Emma raised almost 3000 euros for a project to help clean up plastic waste in Zanzibar.

Eco Runner Team Delft

Eco-Runner Team Delft organised two competitions this year to show their capabilities of their self-built hydrogen powered vehicle since the original race, the "Shell Eco-marathon Competition", was cancelled because of COVID-19.

International Astronautical Congress in Paris

GALA conference presentation

Berend went to Athens to present his serious game at the GALA conference. He and his team built the game during a course of their master computer science. The paper they wrote on their game was nominated for the best paper.

Presentation at European Transport Conference

Five students of the TIL MSc. Programme presented their paper at the European Transport Conference 2021 on how to make the railway sector more resilient to pandemic-based shocks.
