Project SOWETO
A group of four students of the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering travelled to Nairobi, Kenya as part of their multidisciplinary project SOWETO. With the project they have helped Raphael, a local workshop owner who provides jobs for the unemployed youth, with their ‘businness-in-a-box’ concept. This concept contains tools and knowledge necessary to start your own business in upcycling PET bottles into new products.
For nine weeks the students have been working on UPstream recycling and used a human-centered design approach to develop a business-in-a-box that fits the Kenyan context. The tests turned out to be very successful and now they are promoting the concept to gain more attention among the young inhabitants of Nairobi.
