IO3045 - Video for Designers
In recent years video has truly become a medium for the masses. However, although being more and more equipped with cameras in their smartphones, and video editing programs on their computers, design students hardly make use of the full potential that video has to offer to their design process. The main goal of this course is therefore to have students experience and apply the richness of video as a (generative) design tool.
Students are first taught basic skills and techniques in shooting, editing and publishing videos. These techniques are then applied in three design-related assignments, in which video is used as a means 1) to communicate findings of ethnographic research, 2) to research and express specific emotional interactions and 3) to visualize future service design concepts. Throughout the course practical instructions on the use of video hardware and video editing software (Adobe Premiere and After Effects) are given.
