At the beginning of January, I (Marta Ribeiro) had the pleasure of participating in the AIAA SciTech Forum 2024 in Orlando, where I presented two papers produced at our section. One paper covered the prediction of non-routine maintenance tasks, showcasing a model developed by a PhD candidate from our section, Haonan Li. The second highlighted a potential framework for the certification of reinforcement learning applications in air transportation.

Dr. Alessandro Bombelli, die bekend staat om zijn open, interactieve manier van lesgeven en zijn leuke en innovatieve onderwijsmethodes, is uitgeroepen tot TU Delft Educator of the Year 2023.

At the end of November, we (Malte von der Burg and Marta Ribeiro) had a great experience of participating in SESAR Innovation Days 2023 in Seville. This conference is the main dissemination activity for SESAR Joint Undertaking’s results. Additionally, the conference aims for a balance between academia and industry, with exploratory research from both sides being shown.

The first week of September, I attended the ESREL conference (European Conference on Safety and Reliability). The conference was held in Southampton this year, where the weather was unexpectedly warm and nice. Southampton is an old harbour city in the south of the United Kingdom.

Together with Yaakov Bar-Shalom (University of Connecticut, USA), Henk Blom has been awarded the IEEE Aerospace Electronic Systems Society 2022 Pioneering Award “For development of the Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) approach to multi-model estimation and maneuvering target tracking.”

We kindly invite you to the Airport Technology Lab* Showcase & Hackaton event, where we will be presenting two exciting days filled with insightful presentations and engaging roundtable discussions. The ATL is a digital driven fieldlab at RTHA in which different parties can jointly develop and test new products and services. TU Delft (AE, EEMCS, IDE) has been actively involved from the start. The event will take place on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 June at Albeda Rotterdam The Hague Airport College in Rotterdam.

On March 23rd and 24th, a team from TUDelft participated in the first edition of the European_Academia@EASA conference. This conference has the aim of developing partnerships between EASSA and European Universities. Around 20 PhD students were invited to present their work to EASA experts.

I'm Marta Ribeiro and I come from Portugal. I moved to the Netherlands late 2014. I am currently an Assistant Professor at Air Transport and Operations (ATO) at TUDelft, where I explore artificial intelligence/machine learning methods to improve aircraft operations.

Alessandro Bombelli awarded funding in the context of the Open Education Stimulation Fund 2022 to develop interactive learning material for Operations Research courses.

In the third week of January, I attended the two-day LNMB conference with Simon van Oosterom. LNMB, an abbreviation for the very complicated Dutch name “Landelijk Network Mathematische Besliskunde”, is a network that organizes courses for Dutch master and PhD students on Operations Research (OR) and Optimization.
