Attendance at LNMB Conference
In the third week of January, I attended the two-day LNMB conference with Simon van Oosterom. LNMB, an abbreviation for the very complicated Dutch name “Landelijk Network Mathematische Besliskunde”, is a network that organizes courses for Dutch master and PhD students on Operations Research (OR) and Optimization. Each year, they also organize an informal conference. This conference is a great opportunity to meet fellow OR researchers, catch up with everyone you met during the courses, and to get up-to-date with the newest OR research.
The program consisted of four invited guest speakers. Particularly interesting was the presentation of Flip Klijn on kidney exchange optimization, which is a much more complicated topic than I first thought. Also very interesting was the talk of François Glineur, who explained how to let a computer make mathematical proofs. Besides the guest speakers, the PhD students of LNMB each got half an hour to present their work during the parallel sessions. Here, I presented my work on predictive aircraft maintenance, and how to integrate Remaining Useful Life prognostics into the maintenance planning.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable, interesting and “gezellige” conference. Hopefully, we can attend again next year!
