When I arrived in Delft after my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at TU Twente...
... I was pleasantly surprised by the broad offer of sports and culture compared to TU Twente. The number of classes within the X subscription is impressive. With one X subscription you can really do anything at no extra cost. My favourite classes are Strength & Conditioning (CrossFit), Boxing, Kickboxing, Spinning, Yogalates, Power Kick, Body Power, Spartan Workout, Yoga, Pilates, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Capoeira, MMA, SclptCycle, Dodgeball and the Tennis clinic. I enjoy using the music studios to play piano and sing. Also, I regularly book tennis and soccer courts, all within the X subscription. In addition, you can book dance studios, which I like to do to practice Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba. In addition, you can book dance studios, which I love to do to practice Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba.
What also surprised me a lot...
... is the quality of the classes. Shamangi's Yogalates classes are tremendously calming and stress relieving, which helped me during stressful periods with deadlines. Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA and Capoeira are taught by a professional fighter from Brazil, who regularly invites other professional fighters. Such classes would normally cost a fortune.
Strength & Conditioning, which is actually CrossFit (because CrossFit is a brand you have to pay for to be called that), is taught by Javier Wanga. He is a top coach who has helped me through multiple injuries and increased my squat from 110 kg to 140 kg in a few months. Javier is always thorough with the warm-up and cool-down specific to the day's workout. He always asks about your emotional and physical state and adjusts his class accordingly.
The Tennis Clinic in the summer is also fantastic. Free tennis lessons three times a week from a great coach, Lito Egbreghts, who gives personalized feedback that makes great progress in your tennis game. He has improved my serve and agility, moving me from a tense player to a looser style of play where I let the racket do the work.
Studying can sometimes be pretty stressful...
... you often spend entire days sitting still behind your coursework, and it's hard to really relax before bed without doing something else. Fortunately, X offers sports classes in the evenings. This gives you the chance to completely immerse yourself in the moment and take your mind off that assignment or that upcoming exam. After such a class, you go home feeling fulfilled and you can fall asleep peacefully.
There are also days when you prefer to stay in bed all day. But if you have a sports class booked at 7:30, you have to get up to avoid a no-show warning, at the risk of not having access to X for a week. This motivates you to start your day off right. After such an early morning class, the rest of the day feels like a piece of cake.
An X subscription is ideal for study breaks...
... whether you are studying in the library or at your faculty, you can easily walk to X during your break or after your study session to do something different for a bit. Together with your friends, you can have an adventure at X every day and try something new, providing some entertainment after all those hours in the books.
Additionally, doing activities at X is an excellent way to get to know your friends better. By participating in different activities in new environments, you will discover more about each other and strengthen your friendships.
