"I think going for group classes like Legs, Bums & Tums, where some of the activities are almost dance-like, put me out of my comfort zone as I have no coordination in dance whatsoever. However, I enjoy the session, and even though I look awkward, I have fun and can feel that rewarding ache after a good workout."
Hi, I'm Ashish...
...and I am from Bangalore, India. I came to Delft to pursue my Masters in Electrical Sustainable Engineering. Specifically, I am interested in the technical aspects which need to be dealt with in the energy grid as we move away from fossil fuels into more greener sources of energy. I think the Netherlands, and Europe, have taken many positive strides in this aspect. That's why I decided to come here and be a part of the energy transition! I come from a family that's very enthousiastic about sports. We run a small football club back home, who until last season competed in the top division in the state of Karnataka. Sadly, we got relegated this season, but are still playing in the second division! I grew up playing football, badminton, table tennis, and a variety of other sports.
I signed up for X...
...during my Introduction Program in August last year. This year, I've taken the fitness supplement so I can also build muscle and focus on the weaker parts of my body. I play in a team in the Monday league competition, and I play football 2-3 times a week. Apart from this, I also discovered (real) dodgeball at X and was really drawn to the game and its many intricacies. I became a member of the dodgeball association, and regularly go for the ticket hour as well. Apart from these regular events, I frequent a few ticket hours such as Spinning and Boxing. I love the energy in the spinning class and the different ways in which all the instructors teach. Boxing is, in my opinion, the most intense and fun form of cardio at X, and it is very well planned and carried out by the instructor. I also like to try out various ticket hours from time to time. I recently discovered Legs, Bums & Tums, and I will definitely add this ticket hour to my long list of regular activities at X! I have also found groups to play volleyball, beach volleyball, badminton andtennis. I try to mix up the sports I play as much as possible!
I learned the importance...
...of balancing different activities in order to best develop myself and my body. I was mostly a person who enjoyed playing team sports, and didn't necessarily like activities such as strength and conditioning, cardio-based training, meditation, and other indoor activities. Since I was able to try out various activities provided at X, I understood how these activities could not only make me mentally and physically stronger, but also help me improve my skills in the sports I am most interested in. Since moving to Delft, I have become stronger and leaner, and it is definitely not because I eat too little! I think going for group classes like Legs, Bums & Tums, where some of the activities are almost dance-like, put me out of my comfort zone as I have no coordination in dance whatsoever. However, I enjoy the session, and even though I look awkward, I have fun and can feel that rewarding ache after a good workout.
X has a little bit for everyone...
...whether you are into singing, or music production, or sports or pottery. If you are new to X, I would recommend everyone to pick up something new. There are a vast number of courses offered at the beginner level. Learning something new is always an uplifting feeling, and I would say it is very therapeutic in your student life. Additionally, I find that X is filled with a lot of amazing, sweet and accommodating people, and is a wonderful place to make new friends. I also think that newcomers should try out various ticket hours, even if it does not appeal to them at first. Many times, I have found that the classes are made interesting by the instructors, and it is impossible to judge a particular ticket hour before actually going for it.
