Laptop advice ME
A laptop with the required facilities is an absolute must for anyone studying in the Faculty of ME. This applies to students taking both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. All students therefore have their own system, which they can use wherever and whenever they want.
Part of the ME building is equipped for using a laptop. The building has wireless and wired access to the TU Delft network. You will need a network cable to use the wired network, and you will have to register with the network (once only). The design desks in the design rooms for Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes provide plenty of network connections and plug points.
Which laptop?
TU Delft has a laptop project. The laptop project offers a choice of three models. The mid-range model is NOT suitable for the graphics software required for a programme in ME. The high-end models meet all the requirements of the ME software. Participation in the laptop project is not compulsory but does offer considerable advantages.
- It is a powerful computer with good screen quality.
- The price is good
- 3 year warranty. On campus repair and battery and possibility to get a swap laptop while your laptop is in repair.
If you want to bring your own laptop for the ME studies please note the following:
- Suitable for Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bits)
- A multi-core (quad-core) processor
- A discrete (dedicated) video card
- At least 16 GB of RAM (32 GB recommended)
- At least 512 GB of storage (1TB SSD recommended)
- At least 15” full HD screen
Apple
For your studies you mainly use Windows software that is often not available in an Apple Mac (OS) version. A Mac is therefore less suitable for your studies.
