Laptop advice Aerospace Engineering

Students studying in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering obliged to have their own laptop with the required facilities. This applies to students taking both Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. All AE students therefore have their own system, which they can use wherever and whenever they want.

Most of the areas in the Aerospace Engineering buildings are equipped for laptop users. The buildings also provide various self-study workspaces and a wireless and wired network for Internet access. You will need a network cable to use the wired network, and you will have to register with the network (once only).

Which laptop?

TU Delft runs a laptop project. The laptop project offers a choice of three models. The mid-range model is NOT suitable for the graphics software required for a programme in AE. The high-end models meet all the requirements of the AE software. Participation in the laptop project is not compulsory but does offer considerable advantages.

  •  It is a powerful computer with good screen quality.
  •  The price is good
  •  3 year warranty. On campus repair and battery and possibility to get a swap laptop while your laptop is in repair.

If you decide not to take advantage of the laptop project and prefer to buy your own, pay particular attention to:

  • Suitable for Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bits)
  • A multi-core (quad-core) processor
  • A discrete (dedicated) video card
  • At least 16 GB of RAM (32 GB recommended)
  • At least 512 GB of storage (1TB SSD recommended)
  • At least 15” full HD screen

Apple

For your studies you mainly use Windows software that is often not available in an Apple Mac (OS) version. A Mac is therefore less suitable for your studies.
