Work begins on new Aula tram and bus stop
New construction work around campus
Work to prepare the new Aula tram and bus stop will start on Monday 1 July. The stop will be moved to the north, close to building 30A (ESA Directorate). In the coming period, the cycle and footpath between Jaffalaan and Christiaan Huygensweg will be relocated to make way for the new tram and bus stop and the adjacent road. This means that the cycle and footpath will be closer to building 30A. From 22 July, a temporary diversion will be in place and you can access and leave the campus via Schoemakerstraat or Leeghwaterstraat. Alternative routes will be signposted.
Work on the new cycle and footpath is expected to take six weeks and be completed by mid-August. From September, the remaining work will start: the construction of the motorway, the realisation of the connection to the square in front of the StuD and finally the restoration of the Mekelpark in front of the auditorium. These works depend on the progress and planning of the tramway.
Removal of the current stops at the Aula
The bus lines that previously used Christiaan Huygensweg or Mekelweg and had their own stops there will soon share the new Aula stop. This means that all bus lines and the tram will soon stop here. This will be more convenient for travellers and will improve traffic safety by reducing crossing traffic flows. The current stops near the Aula on Christiaan Huygensweg and Mekelweg will be cancelled.
