Inaugural Lecture of Professor Nicole van Nes

“Who is at the driver’s seat?” – Developers of self-driving vehicles should create technology that takes human skills and behaviour into account.

This was the message that Professor of Human-Centered Design for Smart Mobility, Nicole van Nes, made clear during her inaugural lecture on 5 April 2023. She noted that designers are able to understand both the possibilities and threats of humans and technology, thus they have the ability to bridge the gap between the two. Van Nes supports a human-centered design approach when it comes to maximising the potential of this technology, as it helps people to better understand it and consequently adopt it.
