- The Class Progress tool provides Progress reports on students' results for their active courses. At course level, you can choose which reports you want to present to students. Your options include Grades, Content, Discussions, Assignments, Quizzes, Checklists, Surveys, Progress reports, as well as a summary report.
Student Progress
The Class Progress tool provides a performance dashboard for the instructor to monitor student progress. To access this tool, go to your Course Admin section and select Class Progress.
The Class Progress tool enables you to keep track of your students’ and intervene before potential or anticipated problems occur.
-
There are nine different performance indicators. You can choose to include any four of these in your grid.
- Hover over any of the indicator charts to get more detailed information about that indicator:
- Click on Settings just below the navigation bar. Here you can customise the indicators in the grid.
To replace one of the current indicators, click the arrow next to any of the indicators to expand the dropdown. And select Replace. This will allow you to select other options to customise your dashboard.

One of the main performance indicators in the Class Progress tool is the Content Completion Summary. Completion tracking enables you to select the method of completion for an activity. It also provides progress indicators for students (they can view this in their Profile) as they complete their course activities. You can adjust and view the completion status for each student per content item.
To view progress per student, go to Content, click the submodule (e.g. Buddycheck, a quiz, a file) you wish to view and choose Completion Summary at the bottom of the page. Here, you will see your list of students with their completion status.
Completion tracking is unfortunately not available for courses with 1000 users or more.
There are different types of completion tracking. Follow the steps below to find them.
- Navigate to the relevant module or submodule of your course.
- Select the dropdown menu and click on Set All Completion.
- It is also possible to change the completion tracker for one specific topic, by clicking the Edit Properties in Place option from the dropdown menu of that content item and selecting the checkmark.
- You can then choose to set your completion method to automatic (default), manual or not required to disable the notifications.
- Required: Automatic
Automatically determines whether users have completed a topic when they click to view it. For some activities, this functionality might require users to complete an assessment or submit a file before the completion is successful. - Required: Manual
Users can select the completion checkbox beside each content topic to indicate they have completed it. Selecting the completion check box to indicate a completed task does not affect the assessment score, nor is it equivalent to an attempt for the task.
- Required: Automatic
Please be aware that changing between completion methods, i.e. changing automatic to manual, resets completion tracking for that topic. This would result in users needing to go back to the topic and manually marking it as complete. However, there is no need for resubmission of files or assessment activities.
-
- Not Required
This will turn off notifications about this topic.
- Not Required
- Click Update to enable the completion tracking type.

You can also track progress per student.
- Navigate to Course Admin > Class Progress.
- Click on any student listed for more details on their progress.
- You will be presented with a list of activities that the selected student has access to. Here you can do a number of things:
- View the student’s grades and feedback (if available) in the user progress reports.
- Navigate to a specific activity (if available).
- Send an email or a quick message to a specific student by hovering over their user icon.
Your students can view their own Progress on the course page by clicking on their name in the upper corner of the screen and selecting Progress from dropdown list.
The Class Progress page also shows if a student is exempt from a certain activity. The activity will be labelled as ”exempted”.
Exempted activities are hidden in the Summary pages for Assignments, Surveys, Quizzes and Checklists for students who are exempted from them, as well as in the set of statistics that appear at the top of each activity. However, the exempted activity is shown on the Overview pages, though labelled accordingly.
Please visit this page for more information about exempting students from course activities.
