Timon Idema receives SURF Education Award for Open Interactive Textbooks

We are delighted to share that Timon Idema (TNW) has won the SURF Education Award for his work on Open Interactive Textbooks. Timon was one of the first to grasp the importance of sharing open educational resources and successfully put this insight into action. After the publication of his open textbook, he noticed that his students used it mainly online. He thought: “why not give them an online alternative, in a way that it could also be more interactive?”

Timon and his team played an important role in the development of these open interactive textbooks. He also worked to get manuals, examples and templates published, so others can start using Jupyter books to start writing their open interactive textbook. According to the jury, these textbooks are "an important innovation to make learning material more and more widely accessible".
