Rules for Opt-out Online Proctored Exams
We are offering an opt-out option as an additional service.
We urge students to use this option carefully – and only if you have a severe hurdle that prevents you from taking part in an online-proctored exam (technical issues, personal circumstances or privacy-related objections).
Please note that we have improved the manual and instructions for online proctoring and arranged for additional support during online-proctored exams. This will reduce the number of students who have difficulties at the start of their online-proctored exam. If you still have a problem, we expect to be able to help you faster.
Below are the key conditions to participate in the opt-out:
- The accommodation of opt-out will be at all times subject to governmental and/or regional measures.
- For each exam period please submit a FULLY completed form by the following deadlines:
- Sunday 9th of January 2022 by 23:45 (Q2 exams 17th of January – 28th of January) - complete form here
The form to opt out per exam period will be open approximately two weeks before the exam period starts and will no longer be available after the specified deadline.
- You will be notified if you have been accepted as part of the opt-out service at least six calendar days in advance of your exam.
- Your exam will be offered digitally and, at the same time, on campus in the presence of invigilators. The invigilators on the day will guide you to your seat and provide you with a password to start your exam.
- Please arrive to the designated exam room 30 minutes before your exam. If you arrive late for the exam, you will not be allowed to enter the room and your exam will be considered invalid.
- It is mandatory to wear a face mask on campus and in the exam room. Only when sitting down and doing the exam are you allowed to take it off.
- If you received a positive message about your request to have an opt-out but cannot come to campus due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. quarantine or Covid-19 symptoms), you can opt back into the online proctored exam on the day of the exam itself. You will always remain registered for your online proctored exam.
- As this is a new service, it will be evaluated at the end of each exam period. We will not use any personal data and any collected data will be deleted after 30 days.

We will inform you at least 6 days before the exams. For some exams that are closer to the deadline to register for the opt-out, we may inform you 3 days before the exam.

Yes you can. There are three reasons to be refused:
- You didn’t fill in the form completely
- If you don’t follow the guidelines and instruction of invigilator in or outside the exam room.

Then your exam is declared invalid. You are not to enter into discussion about this with the invigilator. They have strict instructions to not let late exam takers enter into the exam location. Please arrive 30 minutes before your exam time at the specified location.

Please fill out a form per exam. Take into consideration the limited spaces per day!

Please use all the options available to you before you make use of this request. Try to arrange hardware/software/internet in order to take the exam at home, or try to arrange doing the exam at another location such as a friend/family member’s house where technology is more reliable etc. If you have privacy objections, first try to clear your room or hang a sheet to cover personal posters on the wall etc. Try to solve your issues through other means instead of using this opt-out.

Organising an opt-out option on location is a complex undertaking with numerous members of staff involved. We also want to ensure the safety of students and staff coming to campus. Therefore, we will evaluate how the opt-out option is being used and implemented.
