Criteria

BSA for first year students

The TU Delft standard for the BSA is 45 ECTS from first-year courses. You will receive interim recommendations in March and at the end of July. For both these interim recommendations, a number of criteria apply to all degree programmes (see below for an overview of criteria per recommendation date). The recommendation in March is based on the results obtained in the first semester. The recommendation at the end of July is based on the results obtained during the entire first academic year, including any resits in July.

If you have already obtained 45 or more ECTS at the end of July, you will then receive a definitive positive BSA so that you can re-enrol for the new academic year. If you have not yet obtained 45 ECTS, you will receive a proposed negative BSA.

The definitive BSA - which you will receive at the end of August - is based on the results obtained during the entire first academic year, including any resits in July.

Recommendation moment Recommendation Obtained EC
March Negative up to 15 ECTS
Doubtful 15 to 22.5 ECTS
Postive 22.5 or more ECTS

At the end of July: Proposed negative up to 45 ECTS
Positive 45 or more ECTS

At the end of August: Negative up to 45 ECTS
Positive 45 or more ECTS

Previously received a postponement of the BSA?

If you received a postponement of the BSA in a previous academic year and you are re-enrolled this academic year for the Bachelor's program for which the postponement of the BSA has been granted, the binding study advice (BSA) will also apply to you this academic year.

This means:

  • If you obtained 0-15 ECTS in a previous academic year, then in the current academic year (2024-2025) you must obtain a minimum of 45 ECTS from the first academic year in addition to the ECTS obtained in a previous academic year to receive a positive BSA recommendation. For example: if you obtained 10 ECTS credits in the past academic year, you must have obtained at least 55 ECTS credits of the first academic year at the end of this academic year.
  • If you have obtained more than 15 ECTS credits in a previous academic year, then in the current academic year (2024-2025) you must obtain all other credits of the first academic year (and therefore total 60 ECTS of the first academic year) to receive a positive BSA advice.

If you deregister form your programme in the academic year in which you make use of the postponement, you will receive a definitive negative BSA. This is because you fail to meet the requirement that you must obtain a minimum of 45 EC in the academic year in which you make use of the postponement.

During the academic year, we will inform you once about your study progress. You will receive a message at the end of July stating the number of credits you have obtained in the academic year 2024-2025. At the end of August, you will receive the final binding advice by e-mail.
