Academic Counsellors
Academic counsellors are the first point of contact for all TU Delft students looking for assistance on study related issues or coaching and training on study skills. They are easily accessible at every faculty and can also support you in more complex personal matters that are affecting your studies. A meeting with an academic counsellor is confidential and your personal information will not be shared without your permission.
A team of academic counsellors is available at every faculty. Sometimes your bachelor or master programme has its own academic counsellor(s). The academic counsellor can offer guidance and support in short individual meetings during open office hours, mostly during your lunch break, or in an appointment, if you need more time.
The academic counsellor will coach and advise you on your options in your situation. This can be any kind of situation that affects your studies, for example:
- reporting illness, disability or other extenuating circumstances
- studying with illness and/or disability
- general questions about the study programme
- study planning and study skills
- quitting or switching your studies
- admission to BSc/MSc projects or courses
- study challenges with courses
- applying for financial assistance (e.g. Profiling Fund) in case of unforeseen circumstances that lead to study delay
- applying for postponement of your BSA
- for non-EU students: extenuating circumstances and the study progress requirements of your residence permit (MoMi)
You can also consult the academic counsellor for more complex matters that are having an impact on your studies and personal life such as:
- dealing with stress
- dealing with motivational challenges
- personal or psychological issues
- study guidance in more complex medical situations
- individual guidance in studying with a disability
- study delay because of family circumstances
- dealing with study problems and looking for coaching
In addition to this counselling, you are always free to visit or use the other support services at TU Delft. Visit the overviewpages Counselling and Personal Development for all available support for students at TU Delft.
In some cases an academic counsellor may explicitly refer you to, for example, the SGZ student doctor, a TUD student psychologist, a TUD central student counsellor, Motiv (Centre for Personal Development), the Board of Examiners of your faculty or other parties.
