Wrapping up your job search
Congratulations on your new job! You worked diligently throughout your career search and now it’s time to bring the search to a close.
You worked hard building your network of contacts and they are much too valuable to lose as you never know when you’ll need to call upon them again! Invest the time to take some important decisions and actions. Don’t forget the following:
- Kindly end negotiations with other companies that are pending.
- Notify any recruiters you are in contact with to let them know where you can be found in the future.
- Communicate with your network of contacts to thank them for their help and to express an interest in staying in touch with them.
- Decide whom you want to keep in your network long term and develop a strategy to stay in contact with them regularly.

Never take your network for granted. Write, email or call your key contacts to update them of your new job. Let them know your contact details for the future and thank them for your support, information and referrals (if appropriate) during your search. Look for ways to maintain the network and continue to be helpful to each, for example, look for opportunities to celebrate other people successes; regularly keep in touch by passing along information or articles and be a source of support and information to them should they find themselves job searching.
