Marcelle van Beusekom
Where do you work?
As a Senior Creative Lead at LUNAR (San Francisco, USA), I am responsible for exploring and defining the right approach for a client's design task at hand. I craft the project scope and together with a team of researchers, strategists, designers and engineers I translate the dreams and strategic vision from the front-end into attractive, feasible products and services up to design development & production.
What have you learned from your study at IDE?
Besides teaching me numerous skills, theory and knowledge that are essential to any industrial designer, I believe the early years in Delft mainly taught me to zoom out, analyse, reflect, communicate and be a team player. In later years at Delft and more so in practice, I learnt to balance these rational considerations and restraints that exist in projects with emotional aspirations by being attentive to storytelling, styling, craft and the character of objects as well as having a strong focus on better user experience. I received my MSc in Industrial Design with honors in 2005 and I also studied for one year at Umeå Institute of Design in Sweden where I further shaped my creative process that, as a whole, is strongly influenced by Dutch and Scandinavian user focused design principles.
