BSc with Dutch diploma
In order to enrol at TU Delft, you need to go through an application process.
This process consists of several steps:
Check Admission Requirements
It is important that you check wether you meet the admission requirements of the programme of your choice. On this webpage you will find more information about the admission requirements, deadlines, and what you may need to arrange to be admitted.
Vwo diploma
With a vwo diploma from a Dutch secondary school (including Bonaire), you can apply for a bachelor's programme at TU Delft.
Do you have a different previous education than a Dutch vwo diploma? For example, an International Baccalaureate (IB) or a vwo diploma obtained in Surinam or on the former Netherlands Antilles (except Bonaire)? Then you have a non-Dutch previous education and you must follow the route of BSc - international diploma. Take into account the applicable application deadlines.
For all bachelor's programmes at TU Delft, mathematics B at vwo level is a requirement. Further admission requirements vary per bachelor's programme.
You need to check yourself whether you meet the admission requirements of the programme of your choice. In the table below, you can see which subjects are required per profile for each bachelor's programme.
Are you missing a compulsory subject in your profile? Then we speak of a 'deficiency'. Click here for more information about deficiencies.
Please note:
If you obtained a vwo diploma before the introduction of profiles in 2010, different requirements apply. Do you have questions about admission with a vwo diploma 'old style'? Please e-mail your question to contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl.
Hbo Propaedeutic diploma and Associate Degree
Students who have obtained an hbo propaedeutic diploma or an associate degree can, under certain conditions, start with the first year of a TU Delft bachelor's programme. These students must meet the same profile requirements before the start of the bachelor's programme as students with a vwo diploma.
Do you have a vwo secondary school diploma? Then you follow the route of regular vwo students. Check whether your profile meets the vwo profile requirements.
Do you have a havo or mbo secondary school diploma? Then there is always one or more compulsory subjects missing, because they are not at vwo level. To be admitted to a Bachelor's programme, you must meet the following admission requirements:
- You have obtained the hbo-propaedeutic diploma or associate degree certificate before the start of the academic year on September 1;
- You have eliminated all deficiencies (compared to vwo level) for the compulsory subjects before the start of the academic year on September 1. Click here to see which subjects are compulsory per bachelor's programme.
You must provide a certified copy* of all required documents (diploma and certificates) to the Contact Centre before September 1, by sending them by post or handing them in at the counter. For programmes with selection and placement (numerus clausus), you must have eliminated and submitted the deficiencies before July 15.
If you receive your hbo-propaedeutic diploma or associate degree certificate later than September 1, you can request a statement from the examination board of the university of applied sciences. This must state that you have met all requirements and on which date.
Please note: Hbo grade lists are not accepted as proof.
Completed hbo degree programme
Students with an hbo diploma must meet the same requirements as students with an hbo propaedeutic diploma. TU Delft does not grant exemptions for examination subjects. If you would like information about exemptions, visit the DUO Examination Subject Exemption web page.
Please note: Only for the academic year 2024-2025, students with a completed hbo degree programme can apply for an exemption from exam subjects. This will no longer be possible from 2025-2026.
*A certified copy of the certificate, diploma, or certificate is a copy that contains an original certification stamp and a signature or initial of the educational. You can have a certified copy made by your own institution. There is also the possibility to obtain a certified copy with the original document at the counter of the Contact Centre.
Eliminating deficiencies Bachelor's programme
Deficiencies are defined as whatever is lacking from the previous education and is mandatory for admission to the programme. Incoming students may be deficient in mathematics, physics, and for some programmes also in chemistry and biology. Please note: Bridging programmes have different deadlines, admission requirements, and deficiencies. Please consult the Bridging webpage for more information.
To eliminate a deficiency, you must obtain a vwo certificate with a “sufficient” result, before the start of the bachelor's programme on September 1, to demonstrate that your knowledge of the missing subject is at the required level.
You can obtain a vwo certificate by taking a state exam (in Dutch). The state exam takes place once a year, you can find the exam dates on the DUO website. You must register for the state exam before January 1.
In addition, various institutions provide courses with accompanying tests to eliminate deficiencies, see: the Central Committees for Entrance Exam (CCVX), the Korteweg-de Vries Institute*, and Boswell-Bèta. Certificates obtained from these institutions are accepted by TU Delft. Contact the institutions well in advance for more information or to register for a course.
*Please note! From the academic year 2025-2026, admission with a mathematics B certificate from the Korteweg de Vries Institute will no longer be possible. Certificates obtained from this institute earlier will also no longer be accepted.
Deadline
Do you wish to apply for a regular bachelor's programme (without numerus clausus)?
- Deficiencies must be eliminated before September 1 of the year of enrolment by obtaining a “sufficient” result.
- A certified copy* of the certificate must be provided before September 20 to the Contact Centre by sending it by post or handing it in at the counter.
Do you want to apply for a programme with a numerus clausus? Different deadlines apply. See numerus clausus for more information.
*A certified copy of the certificate, diploma, or certificate is a copy that contains an original certification stamp and a signature or initial of the educational. You can have a certified copy made by your own institution. There is also the possibility to obtain a certified copy with the original document at the counter of the Contact Centre.
Numerus Clausus
In recent years, the interest in studying at TU Delft has increased enormously. Of course we are happy with that, but we also want to ensure that we can continue to provide students with good education and that there is sufficient room in the educational spaces. Therefore, TU Delft applies a numerus clausus with selection and placement for a number of bachelor's programmes.
For the academic year 2024-2025, the following bachelor's programmes apply a numerus clausus with selection and placement:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences
- Computer Science & Engineering
- Clinical Technology
- Nanobiology
Click on the programme for more information about the procedures of the programmes.
Deadlines
To process an application for a numerus clausus programme, extra time is needed and earlier deadlines apply:
- January 15: Application deadline for a programme with numerus clausus
- July 15: Submitting diploma result (vwo is automatically passed on)
- July 15: Providing deficiencies documents: send a certified copy of the certificate by post or hand it in at the Contact Centre.
It is possible to request an extension for the submission of deficiencies by submitting a postponement request via contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl. This extension can be granted until August 15 at the latest.
The outcome of the selection will be announced by mid-April.
For more information about the numerus clausus procedure, see: Selection and Placement Regulations TU Delft.
For general questions about the selection and placement procedure (numerus clausus), contact the Contact Centre.
Mandatory study choice check (SKC)
For some programmes, a mandatory study choice check (SKC) applies. Through this check, you can determine whether the study suits you well. If you have not participated in the mandatory SKC, you cannot be enrolled in the programme.
For the academic year 2024-2025, the following bachelor's programmes have a mandatory SKC:
- Electrical Engineering
- Applied Physics
- Applied Mathematics
- Maritime Technology
- Molecular Science and Technology
Click on the study for more information about the mandatory SKC per programme.
Application deadline
To participate in the SKC, you must apply for the programme via Studielink before May 1. After your application in Studielink, you will receive more information from the programme about how to register for the SKC. After the SKC, you will receive advice on how well the study suits you. This advice is not binding, it is up to you to decide whether to follow it or not.
If your programme does not have a mandatory SKC but you still want to check whether the programme suits you, you can participate in a voluntary SKC if you apply for a bachelor's programme before May 1 (with the exception of numerus clausus programmes).
Colloquium doctum
The colloquium doctum is a special and strict admission procedure for prospective students who:
- Are not directly admissible to a university programme based on their diploma;
- Are 21 years or older on the day the programme starts;
- Possess sufficient proficiency in the Dutch language. This is also a requirement for English-taught programmes.
For more information, please contact the Contact Center, mentioning Colloquium Doctum, via contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl.
