A new study published in Nature unveils a surprising discovery: a substantial amount of meltwater is temporarily stored within the Greenland Ice Sheet during summer months. For the first time, an international group of researchers was able to quantify meltwater with positioning data. The finding challenges current models of how ice sheets contribute to global sea level rise.

The water and soil system has traditionally been an important basis for the development of mostly densely populated delta areas. Climate change also changes the existing conditions of the water and soil system; this has an impact on the future spatial economic compositions of deltas and their land use. On 8 November, Professor Anne Loes Nillesen (Urbanism) will give her inaugural address ‘Climate Adaptation; an Act of Design’.

With a Climate & AI Workshop event on October 3rd, TU Delft AI Initiative and Climate Action Programme (CAP) joint forces to bring together (early career) researchers from all TU Delft faculties working at the intersection of climate and AI to explore relevant overlaps and related opportunities.
