Dutch horticulture has long relied on cheap fossil fuels, particularly natural gas from Groningen. However, volatile energy prices pose a risk and there is an urgent need to reduce CO2 emissions. With the end of natural gas use in sight, horticulture faces the challenge of losing an important energy source.
Delft University of Technology can help by developing new technologies, for example based on hydrogen and geothermal energy, to meet this need.
