The signing of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science by the Netherlands, as well as the roll-out of the Open Science Netherlands programme has placed Open Science at the foreground of the Dutch research agenda. The rapid expansion of Open Science activities within Dutch universities requires a corresponding discussion about how to monitor progress. It is timely to initiate discussions about how to monitor Open Science in a manner that supports diversity of practice, but informs a national programme of transformation. This workshop will bring together Open Science practitioners and scholars from around The Netherlands to discuss monitoring and share expertise from existing initiatives with the aim of initiating a countrywide dialogue.

Goals

This workshop has four key goals:

  1. To share experiences of monitoring Open Science at an institutional level and to identify opportunities for best practice sharing
  2. To identify areas of Open Science that currently do not have robust monitoring strategies and require further attention
  3. To discuss how institutional monitoring can align and support international monitoring strategies such as UNESCO and EOSC
  4. To create a community of practitioners to continue to work on the development of responsible Open Science monitoring strategies and tools

Outputs and future developments

The outcomes of the workshop will be consolidated into a workshop summary that will serve as a basis for a co-created publication on Open Science monitoring in the Netherlands.
