IDE welcomes representatives from the European Space Agency

22 May 2023 09:00 till 13:30 - Location: IDE | Add to my calendar

On 22 May 2023, we will welcome two representatives from the European Space Agency (Romanian Division) to the TU Delft Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering.

Cristian Vizitiu and Alexandru Nistorescu are members of the Department of Space Applications for Human Health and Safety (Institute of Space Science). Cristian is the head of the department and Alexandru is a researcher there. They are both working on health related issues in relation to long-term space flights.

TU Delft staff and students are invited to attend the morning session, which will include talks by both of our guests, as well as, a chance to network over coffee. The talk and networking will take place at IDE. The exact location of the talks will be confirmed soon.

He has built his career within R&D and management space field perspectives, currently being the Head of Space Applications for Human Health and Safety Department, Institute of Space Science, Bucharest Magurele, Romania and Associate Professor in Systems Engineering related disciplines.

With an engineering background in vehicle based engineering, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and an international master in complex system architectures certified by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cristian Vizitiu has gained his first PhD title within Systems Engineering (SE) methodology according to space working standards (ESA ECSS, INCOSE)  and now in the course of fulfilling the 2nd PhD Programme in Computer Science and Information Technologies in human performance  applications.

Involved in numerous national and international R&D projects, Cristian Vizitiu performs in designing and developing integrated applications with space related technologies and expertise for space or terrestrial use, as telemedicine, countermeasures for human spaceflight, assistive technologies, as well contributes in experiments within Ground-Based Analogs for Human Spaceflight.

This PhD is a highly accomplished Research Scientist at the Space Applications for Health and Security Laboratory, which is situated within the Institute of Space Science in Bucharest, Romania. He holds a PhD in Human Performance, with a focus on the development and testing of a novel muscle analysis device capable of operation in both terrestrial and space-based environments. Additionally, PhD. Nistorescu is a Biophysicist and Bioengineer with a strong academic background, having obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Physics, followed by two Master's Degrees in Medical Biophysics and Clinical Bioengineering from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Bucharest and the Faculty of Bioengineering at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iași, respectively.

Nistorescu's primary responsibilities within the laboratory include developing and refining 3D modelling and printing techniques, designing and conducting experiments, as well as creating innovative methodologies. In addition, he is actively involved in documenting laboratory activities and publishing articles in relevant scientific journals. His research interests include the development of biomedical devices and space-based physiology methodologies, to investigate the behaviour of biological systems.
