Only a few faculties allow students to take part in research-based projects, consult the specific faculty course lists here for more information. Please note that in most cases students will have to arrange the supervision of the project themselves by finding a suitable faculty member (supervisor) before applying for the exchange program.

No, you cannot extend beyond the 12 month period. You will have to apply to become a regular student.

Yes it is possible, you can check the courses available at the Centre for Languages and Academic Skills. They have online courses for beginners.

An advisable course package should comprise of between 24 and 30 EC (European Credits) per semester. Less than 24 ECTS is not acceptable, even if allowed by your home university. The number of ECTS should not exceed 30. The advisable study load is 12-15 ECTS per quarter. Each student is expected to attend classes, submit assessments and sit final exams for all courses in which he/she is enrolled at TU Delft obtaining a minimum of 20 ECTS.

It is possible to work although the exchange programme is a full programme demanding your time and energy. TU Delft advises you to fully concentrate on your studies. However, if you do choose to work, you will need to ask for permission from your faculty exchange coordinator and you will also need to check what the limitations are if you have a visa to study in the Netherlands.

- Inform the IND of your departure: If you have a residence permit, you should inform the Immigration & Naturalisation Service (IND) of your departure in writing. This can be done using the relevant form for your residence permit.
- Return your residence card: If you have a residence permit, you should return the residence card to the IND before leaving, as this remains property of the Dutch government. For more information, please visit the IND website.
- Deregister with the municipality: You must deregister with the municipality (gemeente) of your city or town of residence. This is important as the municipality will need to remove your personal details from their records. The process of deregistering may vary slightly from one municipality to another.
- If you have a telephone, internet contract, insurance, gym membership or any other subscriptions you should inform the company providing the service when you wish to terminate the service. It is advisable to let them know, at the latest, one month in advance
- Make sure to close your bank account, write a formal letter to your bank requesting the closure of your account. Include the account number, the date, and your signature. Make sure to mention that all transactions have been cleared and all recurring payments have been canceled.
- Cancel your housing contract, Some housing providers may require you to fill out a cancellation form. This could be a physical form or an online form.
- Request your TU Delft Transcript of records make sure to include your name, your student number and the purpose of the request. You can contact your faculty with your request.
- If you have an Erasmus+ Grant, check what you need to complete before departure with your home university.
