Dr.ir. J.P. Visser Fund
The Dr.ir. J.P. Visser Fonds was founded in 2020 by Koos Visser, who graduated in 1966 from TU Delft in chemical technology. He has been committed to safety during his career at Shell. For more than 10 years he was responsible for HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) coordination, policy, strategy, guidelines, training, monitoring, staffing, audit, review and R&D for Shell's global oil and gas exploration and production.
After his retirement he continued to work for safety. For example, he was a member of the Transport Safety Board (2001-2005) and subsequently a council member of the Dutch Safety Board, the OVV, (2005 - 2013) with, among other things, the human and animal health portfolio. In the OVV he became convinced of the necessity and possibilities of drastically improving safety in healthcare. Through scientific research and education, the Dr.ir. J.P. Visser Fund promotes safety in healthcare and other complex domains such as the process industry, construction and transport sector. In addition to the technical factors, the research and education focuses in particular on the importance of the human and organizational factors.
Centre for Safety in Healthcare
Through the Dr.ir. J.P Visser Fonds, the Centre for Safety in Healthcare has been established. The centre conducts fundamental and empirical scientific research into factors that influence safety in the healthcare sector. To this end, new measurement methods, modeling techniques and interventions will be devised and tested. The centre acts as a driver that puts the importance of human and organizational factors, in addition to the technical factors, high on the agenda in risk modeling in the healthcare sector. The centre contributes to these objectives through focused multidisciplinary research, the proactive and structural involvement of stakeholders from the sector and the provision of an educational curriculum on safety in healthcare. It is also the task of the centre to bring about cross-fertilization with other complex domains, such as the process industry, construction and transport sector. For more information on the Centre,
