What does the Work Council do?
The Works Council (OR) consists of members elected by and from the staff every three years. The OR discusses decisions of the Executive Board that directly or indirectly affect the interests of employees. The Executive Board seeks the advice of the Works Council on many decisions, and in some cases its consent must be requested. The OR has a number of committees, in which consultations take place with the management in preparation for the formal consultations with the Executive Board. In a number of areas, the OR works closely with the Student Council (SR). Besides the OR, the university has Personnel Committees (OdC) for the eight faculties, research institute QUtech and the University Service. These committees discuss, advise and vote or not on topics that do not exceed the interests of the faculty or service.
All TU Delft employees receive the Works Council Flash (OR Flits) once a month, which contains information on the topics the OR is working on.
The OR can be reached at OR@tudelft.nl.
Spearheads
The OR has formulated six spearheads for the 2020-2023 period, on which we would like to make progress and which will be taken into account when the OR determines its position.
Integrity and transparency
Decisions within TU are still far from always taken with transparency. Arguments are sometimes lacking, decision-making sometimes takes place in back rooms, and remains outside the staff meetings. The Works Council wants more transparency to be pursued throughout the organisation at all levels of decision-making, thereby also ensuring integrity.
Data protection and privacy
Data, both research data and also many personal data, are increasingly shared and accessed digitally. Software that processes data no longer always runs on its own servers. With all the associated risks. The OR wants the organisation to better ensure that this data is handled very carefully and that control over our personal data is not transferred to third parties.
Diversity and inclusiveness
All people regardless of their characteristics should be welcome and have the same opportunities to be involved in activities and grow within the organisation. The OR wants diversity and inclusiveness to be addressed ambitiously and concretely, both within human resources policy and in its own research and education.
Sustainability and biodiversity
Climate change and loss of biodiversity are major problems for humanity that need to be solved in the coming years. TU Delft has everything it needs to have a major impact on this. The OR wants us to maximise our commitment to sustainability and biodiversity, both on our own campus and in research and education.
Employee autonomy
Too often, employees are hampered in their personal development by structurally excessive work pressure and bureaucratic pressure due to all kinds of administrative tasks. This can result in us not making sufficient use of the power of innovation through our employees. The OR wants the organisation to ensure that employees have more control over their own work and are given room to develop themselves.
Vision of TU Delft's growth
TU Delft seems to keep growing. More students are applying. Researchers are asked to prove themselves by bringing in external funding. Growth must be prevented from leading to negative effects, for example on work pressure, working atmosphere or the availability of facilities.
The OR explicitly wants to take the negative effects of growth into account in decision-making and working methods.
