Together against food waste for positive impact on climate
From 11 to 17 September 2023, the national Zero Waste Week will take place, organised by the Dutch foundation Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling (Together Against Food Waste). TU Delft supports this Wastefree Week, which is dedicated to raise awareness about food waste. The food system has a big impact on our climate. By wasting less food on campus and off campus, we take a step closer to TU Delft's sustainability ambition.
From harvesting food to waste; the food system requires a lot of energy. For instance, one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food systems. Currently, one-third of food is wasted. This is energy that we do not get back. By wasting less to no food, we are making a positive impact on our campus and contributing to a sustainable future.
Too Good To Go on TU Delft Campus
Since 2022, several catering locations on campus have been using the Too Good To Go initiative. Too Good To Go is an app against food waste and helps you save delicious, unsold food. Whatever leftover food and drink is put together in a 'magic box' (on campus this comes in a bag) and you order it via the Too Good To Go app.
In the magic box, you will find a juice bar, salads and sandwiches. The selection depends on what goodies are left over. The box costs just €3.99 and the actual retail value is around €12. Keep an eye on the app, as the number of bags per day is limited. Pick up the box at X, TPM, ID, Aula, EEMCS, CEG, ECHO, AS, AS and Architecture.
Sustainable TU Delft
TU Delft's ambition is to operate sustainably by 2030. This means being carbon neutral, climate-adaptive and circular, where we pay attention to biodiversity and quality of life on campus. How employees, students, visitors and residents handle food and beverages has a major impact on this ambition.
