Tom J. Savenije

Tom Savenije did his PhD under supervision of Prof. T.J. Schaafsma at the section Molecular Physics of Wageningen Agricultural University, Wageningen, The Netherlands, working on Artificial Photosynthesis. After his defense in January 1997 he took up a post-doc position at the Inorganic Chemistry Department, TU Delft. Afterwards, he joined the group of Dr J.M. Warman at the Radiation Chemistry Department, IRI, TU Delft. There he developed a unique facility to measure the time-resolved photo-induced microwave conductance (TRMC) in thin organic or hybrid films. Numerous groups all around the world now have copied this set-up. In 2009/2010 he spent half year in the group of prof Dr. V. Dyakonov in Wurzburg, Germany as a visiting professor. Since 2018 he is associate professor TU Delft. His major interest focuses on the relationship between composition and structure of in particular perovskites and their physical properties. These materials have possible application in e.g. photovoltaic devices, LEDs and radiation detectors. He authored or co-authored >150 international peer-reviewed papers. Over the last decade he gave numerous presentations at international conferences including MRS, ICSM, PSCO and HOPV.  He has previously successfully collaborated on scientific projects with several (semi)industrial partners, including Tata Steel, IJmuiden; Solliance, Eindhoven; Oxford PV, UK; Saint Gobain, France; IMRA Europe, France; and HyET Solar, Arnhem. As PI, he has successfully obtained grants funded by NWO (Echo, ENW Klein), NWO Sustainable Materials, Shell-NWO/FOM, HTM program of FOM, the Dutch polymer institute, HTSM program of STW and NGF. Presently he collaborates intensively with the PVMD group headed by Prof Olindo Isabella from the EEMCS faculty of TU Delft.
