Organization

Four teams drive the activities of the Delft Space Institute: the management team, the DSI team, the Internal Advisory Board and the External Advisory Board.

The Management Team

The DSI team consists of the management team (figure 1, white box) and leaders of ongoing activities. The Management team, consisting of four people, ensures the smooth sailing of daily operations. The institute manager steers all daily activities, connects scientists with other scientists and external partner, manages ongoing projects and programs and organizes meetings. The institute director is the scientific head of the institute and ensures that all activities of DSI are scientifically relevant and in line with the universities’ priorities and the institute mission and vision. The business developer actively connects different interested parties around potential and active funding opportunities. Secretarial support ensures the timely organization of all DSI’s activities, essential for the institute’s daily operations.

The DSI Team

In the DSI Team the management team actively works together with leaders of the institutes programs, flagships and projects. Together, they ensure that all activities of the DSI are run smoothly. The setup ensures short lines between the management team and the practical implementation of the two flagships and smaller projects within the programs. Program leads actively try to engage community members around activities within their program, establishing new connections and carrying out program activities. Flagship leads manage the flagship projects, communicating with flagship members and the management team, establishing short communicating lines and coherent messaging across the Delft Space Institute. Project leads are individuals leading specific smaller and larger projects that fall within one of the programs. Their involvement in the DSI team ensures effective communication both within the Delft Space Institute and towards the public.

The Internal Advisory Board (IAB)

The Internal Advisory Board consists of one scientist from each of the participating faculties. An annual IAB meeting is used to review DSI achievements and gather input on improvements and future initiatives, the IAB enables essential connections between DSI and the faculties and ensures that the DSI is moving into a mutually beneficial direction, representing the strengths of each faculty.

The External Advisory Board (EAB)

The External advisory board  consists of members from the space sector, outside of the TU Delft. In an annual meeting the EAB provides essential input to the Delft Space Institute regarding its visibility and the relevance of its activities to the (inter)national space sector. Members of Erasmus university, ISIS, TNO, NSO Leiden University, KNMI and ESA are represented in this advisory board. In case you are a member of the (inter)national space sector and you believe you could represent your institute in the EAB, please contact us directly!
