Welcome to the Delft Space Institute, we accelerate space innovation, research and education! 

It is our mission to integrate and advance space expertise across disciplines at TU Delft, driving impactful innovation, research, and education, that address societal needs locally, regionally, and globally. DSI project call 2022/23 is OPEN to all TU Delft employees

Closing date: February 1st, 2023.
Funding: 200k Euro + co-funding.
An interfaculty setting is mandatory.
A multi-disciplinary setting is mandatory.

The Call for Proposals and application form for the new subsidy round 2022-1 of the programme ‘Use of space infrastructure for Earth observation and planetary research’ are online.

Raketlancering 1 april: grafeen voor het eerst de ruimte in

Vrijdag 1 april is een grote dag voor de studie van 2D-materialen (geen grap): er vindt een SpaceX raketlancering plaats waarbij een Delftse onderzoekssatelliet meegaat, die de eerste grafeen geleiders ooit bevat die de ruimte ingaan. Over twee maanden zullen we weten hoe grafeen zich in de ruimte gedraagt. Wat dat mogelijk maakte: de ontdekking van onderzoekers van de TU Delft hoe grafeen kan worden beschermd tegen invloeden uit de omgeving.

TU Delft Space Institute Seed Grants

The Board of the Delft Space Institute is happy to announce that out of ten submitted projects four projects have been awarded the DSI Seed Grant 2022.

TU Delft en partners maken supersnelweg voor digitale data

Onderzoekers van de TU Delft gaan met 20 samenwerkingspartners betrouwbare en veilige draadloze breedbandverbindingen maken met licht in plaats van radiogolven. Zij verwachten dat je op die manier digitale data met hoge snelheden kunt versturen en verwerken, met weinig vertragingen en op een veilige manier. Voor dit onderzoek ontvangen zij 4,1 miljoen euro vanuit het NWO Perspectief-programma. De TU Delft neemt tevens deel aan de overige vijf gehonoreerde Perspectief-consortia.

Miguel Bessa en Richard Norte ontvangen Interstellar Initiatives Grant

Miguel Bessa en Richard Norte ontvingen deze maand de Interstellar Initiatives Grant van het Limitless Space Institute. Zij ontvingen de Award voor hun onderzoek ‘Origami Photonic Crystal Sails with Machine Learning’, dat zich richt op de vraag hoe machine learning kan worden ingezet om nanotechnologie te optimaliseren op een manier die met conventionele, intuïtieve technieken moeilijk haalbaar is.

Online TU Delft Space Institute-TNO-SRON 'Innovate Your Space' symposium on December 8th 2020

With more than 100 participants, the 2020 edition of the DSI-TNO-SRON ‘Innovate Your Space’ symposium themed ‘Smart Space’ on December 8th 2020 was again a success, even in an online environment.

Terahertz detectors by TU Delft and SRON in the NASA GUSTO project

GUSTO is a balloon telescope that will simultaneously map three types of material in the gas and dust between stars. TU Delft and SRON develop all three detector arrays for this NASA mission.
