Exchange students are required to take at least 12 credits and at most 15 credits per term (15 UBC credits are equal to 30 ECTS). The course browser can be found here (remember to select the correct campus and term in the top bar). When selecting your courses, remember to first check whether the course is open for exchange students and whether you meet the pre-requisites set for the course. Some restrictions can be found on this website.
CIE students may request to take a maximum of 2 courses outside the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Registration is subject to course availability. Due to limited capacity in Computer Science, Economics, Commerce and Physics courses, requests for those courses can normally not be accommodated. Please note for non-engineering courses, it is only known very late whether you are accepted for that course or not.
Courses in the following programmes are not open to exchange students:
-
Audiology and Speech Sciences
-
Journalism
-
Medicine
-
Nursing
-
Pharmaceutical Sciences
-
Rehabilitation Sciences and Vantage College
Furthermore, courses within Business, Computer Science and Physics have special restrictions for exchange students, found here. Also courses that include a lab project might have limited availability.

UBC has reserved a limited number of rooms for exchange students going to the Vancouver campus. However, due to high demand on campus housing cannot be guaranteed. It is recommended that students look for off-campus housing due to the low chance of receiving an UBC residence.
Exchange students going to the Okanagan campus will be given priority by the housing office of UBC.
