Talk with the professors - Michael Klenk
Michael Klenk
Michael Klenk is a lecturer in ethics and the philosophy of technology at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, TU Delft.
Which course do you teach?
I teach the course Epistemology and Ethics of Business Analytics in the MOT programme, together with my colleague Jack.
What purpose does your course have?
I think that the course Epistemology and Ethics of Business Analytics is important because future technology managers will often make decisions using data. But there are many misconceptions fundamental misconceptions and important – and fascinating – questions about scientific objectivity, validity, and ethics that we will address in this course.
What skills/knowledge do MOT students take away from your course into their careers?
After taking the course, you will understand much better the normative dimensions of business analytics. You will be a better informed, more critical user of data.
What effect/impact does your course have on society?
My students gain valuable information in my class to take away to society to ensure that business analytics is used in an informed and ethically responsible way.
Can you provide a little personal note?
I really like teaching at MOT because the course is both practically relevant and full or really fascinating and deep theoretical questions. We have a bright student cohort, and it is always fun to teach the course with others.
Experience has taught us that a little preparation from your end does make the video recording and final result a lot more smoothly and professional.
