Research
The research of the Design for Sustainability group is part of the Technology transformation research programme. The research under this theme is inspired by the globally accepted need for sustainable development. It aims at generating the knowledge necessary for the design of products and product-service systems (PSS) with superior life cycle performance, as well as making a concentrated effort to actual design and development. These products and systems must have a low environmental impact, make sustained economic sense and bring real quality of life to end-users. We apply this ‘triple bottom line’ to design for the industrialized world as well as for emerging markets and the so-called ‘base of the pyramid’ a.k.a. BOP.
