Most courses at Sorbonne Université - Faculty of Science and Engineering are taught in French, but there is a list of courses offered in English available on the website. The university advises to follow the French language course for Erasmus students which is offered to all international students. Please note, that there is a very limited number of English-taught courses available for undergraduates (BSc) and the offer of English-taught courses corresponds essentially to Master courses.
Exchange student accepted at the Faculty of Science & Engineering are allowed to select courses from different departments (Mechanics, Physics etc.). There may also be courses in Arts & Humanities (e.g. Philosophy) as well as in Economy and Management, available for Exchange students. Please note that timetable overlaps might occur because courses belong to different study programs, and in case of systematic and/or laboratory overlaps, incoming mobility students at Sorbonne are required to change their learning agreement in order to solve the aforementioned timetable conflicts.
BSc exchange students coming to Sorbonne University are also able to combine courses from two different disciplines (e.g. Engineering and Mathematics) which are part of the major-minor system. Besides, BSc exchange students are allowed to take MSc courses, as long as they meet the pre-requisites. Note, that they will check thoroughly whether you meet the pre-requisites.
An example of available English-taught MSc modules in the field of Mechanics :- Master in Biomedical Applications of Engineering (Ingénierie pour la Santé) : the complete programs of M2 (2nd year) 1st semester are in English.
- Master in Computational Mechanics : the English-taught courses correspond to M2 (2nd year) 1st semester.
- Master in Fluid Mechanics : the English-taught courses correspond to M2 (2nd year) 1st semester.
The requirements set out by Sorbonne are very strict. If you do not have the required prerequisites or language knowledge, it can be challenging to create a complete minor program.
Finally, please consider that, if you are enrolled at Master level at TU Delft, you can also apply for an internship within one of the research institutes at Sorbonne Université-Faculty of Science and Engineering : the main research institutes in Mechanics are Institut Jean Le Rond d’Alembert (https://www.dalembert.upmc.fr/ijlrda/) and ISIR (https://www.isir.upmc.fr/). The complete list of research units at the Faculty of Science at Sorbonne Université is available on the page https://sciences.sorbonne-universite.fr/structures-de-recherche.
In case you decide to apply for an internship/project in one of our research institutes, you should express a research intention (at least the domain or research project you are willing to work on, to be chosen among the ones available in our research units) and your application will be communicated to the potential supervisors, who will, according to their availability, accept or not the application. All research activities can be conducted in English.
