While Osaka University was founded in 1931, its origin reaches back to Tekijuku, a private place of learning founded by Ogata Koan, a competent scholar of Western medicine in the nineteenth century. Now, the university has over fifteen thousand students and four campuses.

Several MSc programmes are taught in English and these are only open to Master students. Bachelor students can participate in the OUSSEP which gives a list of courses for exchange students.
Non-technical subjects are possible and mostly related to humanity studies. -
International students are required to possess a high level of fluency in Japanese when they want to take courses in Japanese.

Students may apply for the JASSO scholarship for international students coming to Japan.

The Osaka University has five dormitories and will assign international students if necessary.
You can also apply for the Host Family Programme where you'll be living with a Japanese family during your semester.
Institute of Science Tokyo, or Science Tokyo, was created following a merger between Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tokyo Medical and Dental University. It is the top national university for science and technology in Japan. Of special interest are the School of Science, the school of Engineering and the School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, along with its many research institutes spread over its campuses.

BSc courses are given in Japanese, while MSc courses are available in English.
Science Tokyo offers two different programmes to exchange students, namely the Young Science and Engineering Researchers Program (YSEP) and the Academic Course Access Program (ACAP).
Within YSEP students conduct individual research activities under the guidance of an academic supervisor at Science Tokyo. In ACAP students take courses offered at Science Tokyo alongside Science Tokyo students. ACAP students are not permitted to take courses offered by the faculties/graduate schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Care Sciences.

Students to this university are eligible for the STIR fund. In case they are following the ACAP, the JASSO grant is also available.
It is also possible to be offered a grant by Science Tokyo for outstanding academic performance without request.
