Internships
Are you considering an internship (abroad)? Most master programmes at ME include an option for an internship, which can be done in the Netherlands or at a foreign organisation or university. The BSc programmes of ME do not include the option to do an internship.
Unfortunately the International Office ME has no Internship Office. If you want to do an Internship you have to organize this yourself. We are happy to help you and provide you with a checklist to find your way in finding and arranging an internship. More general information about doing an internship can be found here.

During the second year of the Master Technical Medicine (TM) students are undertaking their first steps in the work field to experience their own role in a clinical work environment. This happens through four so called “Clinical Internships” The first aim of these internships serves to obtain the clinically required skills. Secondly the student works on a medical technical question, from this research multiple products will result (e.g. a report, technology, or knowledge). The third aspect is the reflection on the student's own identity considering responsibility towards patients and other actors in healthcare.
During the year the internships are planned in 10 week periods starting in September, December, March and June. More information about these internships can be found on Study Guide and questions can be asked at stage-TM@tudelft.nl.The third year of the Master Technical Medicine (TM) is the graduation year with the MSc thesis as major project. Before starting this final project students will have the option to do a “Practical internship” of 15 EC. The main aim of this internship is to give students the option to experience a different work environment of choice, for example to work at a company, to work/study abroad or to gain clinical experience at a healthcare institution. More information about these internships can be found on Study Guide and questions can be asked at stage-TM@tudelft.nl.

For all internships that start after 1 January 2023, it is mandatory within TU Delft to use the internship agreement drawn up by the UNL (Universities of the Netherlands) for internships at companies/organizations in the Netherlands.
For non-EU/EEA students this UNL internship agreement is needed in accordance with the rules of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) and the inspectorate SZW (Social Affairs and Employment) so you don’t need a work permit during the internship period. The so called 'Nuffic agreement' is no longer necessary.
Your ME internship cannot start before your UNL internship agreement has been completed and signed by you, the authorized signatory of your internship company and the master coordinator of your MSc programme (or in his/her absence by the Director of Education). Nothing needs to be arranged for ongoing internship agreements.
The internship agreement will only be used if your internship is part of your study programme. This means that TU Delft will not sign up for an internship that you do in addition to your study program (extracurricular).
Important: no other (legal) agreement for internships at a company/organization should be signed than the UNL internship agreement.
On the Forms & Download page you can find the links to the internship agreement drawn up by the UNL and accompanying explanation.
