Illness

Unfortunately, it can happen that you get sick during your study. In case of short-term illness (a few days), it is important that you inform your professor and project team members about your temporary absence. Make sure you keep them informed about your absence, so that the expectations of your involvement are clear for everyone. If you miss compulsory lectures due to illness, you can ask the teacher what the consequences may be for the course. If you have any questions about your study planning due to missed lectures, please contact your academic counsellor.

In case of long-term illness it is also important to inform your teachers and project team members about your temporary absence. In addition, contact your academic counsellor, who can advise you about an adapted study planning. In some cases, it is possible to request special arrangements if your illness hinders your study progress, such as Profiling Fund and MoMi (for non-EU students).

Missing an exam

Students who are unable to take an exam due to unforeseen circumstances (illness, accident, loss in the family, Covid infection, etc.) have the opportunity to first retake this exam. In case you miss your resit exam due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be appointed to the course next academic year again. It is important that you inform your academic counsellor about your situation so that he/she can think along with you about your further study planning and any special arrangements as mentioned above.

The student has the right to submit a request to the Board of Examiners for an extra exam opportunity. The guideline is that the Board of Examiners only grants this extra chance in the event that it is your last course of your bachelor’s, bridging’s or master’s programme and that you would have a disproportional delay without this extra exam opportunity.

In case of any doubts, questions or report of illness, you can reach the academic counsellors via:

Please mention the following in the e-mail: student name, student number, short description of what is going on, (if known) expected duration, to which course (including course code) the delay relates.
