"Co-Simulation as a Technique for Large Scale and Complex Multi-Energy Modeling"

Integrated energy systems by definition are multi-domain and traditionally are not able to be modeled with a single simulation tool. To allow for analysis across these domain boundaries, the technique of co-simulation can be employed to allow existing single-domain simulation tools to be connected and allow run-time interactions across these boundaries.

This presentation will discuss the application of co-simulation as it has been employed to address these multi-domain analysis challenges and the use of HELICS, the US Department of Energy's co-simulation platform. Examples of how HELICS has and is being used to address new analysis questions will be shown.
