Faculty: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
Expertise: Observational solar physics, Sunspot dynamics, space weather
Bio: I studied for my Masters and PhD in solar physics at Aberystwyth University, where I was primarily interested in space weather research. For my PhD, I developed a software package to analyse sunspot rotation and photospheric plasma flow using images captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory. When designing the package, I frequently needed to handle issues around inconsistent image metadata, designing software that can handle large historical datasets, and a lack of documentation of the fledgling open-source implementations of niche research software libraries. Many researchers I met did not share my enthusiasm of the process, but were all very glad to have the end result. And so was I, because now someone else didn't have to go through that same process. I joined the EEMCS faculty as a data steward in September 2023.
Contact: You can find me in my office (HB13.260) Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30pm, or via email.
