With increasing digitalization, the port-maritime sector is undergoing tremendous development, in which AI plays a crucial role. Applications of AI in this sector include optimizing logistics processes and schedules, as well as enabling autonomously sailing ships. Here, then, the boundary conditions must be examined immediately. For example, traffic rules are designed for humans, and it is not yet clear whether they also work in autonomous traffic. To make the port future-proof, the latest AI insights must be implemented.
