Smartphone chair
A new chair was developed to improve smart phone and tablet productivity and increase comfort. A test showed that the recorded productivity was significantly lower in a standard luxury chair compared with the new developed chair.
Goals of the project
Personal computing is increasingly done away from the desktop and the use of tablets and smart phones is growing continuously. This study a lounge chair is designed to support an improved body posture when using tablets to a regular lounge chair. A test with the prototype study shows that neck flexion is significantly decreased when using this new lounge chair and approaches a neutral position of the head. Discomfort in the neck, back and legs is significantly lower. The armrests’ material is now too hard, which should be improved. Users feel more supported in this chair and experience the tasks as less physical demanding. Overall, the majority of participants prefer the lounge chair.
