Gijs van Leeuwen is a PhD candidate at Delft University of Technology. He is part of the Local Inclusive Future Energy (LIFE) project, exploring the intersection between social, technological, and political dimensions of the local energy transition in Amsterdam South-East.
Gijs is working to develop a transdisciplinary research approach that bridges the academic disciplines of design, anthropology, applied energy research, and more. His approach combines conceptual and theoretical depth with actionable and practical problem-solving. In the renewable energy transition domain, his work is concerned with the smart integration of renewables, the empowerment of citizens and communities, and sociotechnical innovation.

Academic background
Gijs holds two master's degrees, an MSc in Energy Science (Cum Laude) from Utrecht University, and an MSc in Philosophy of Science, Technology, and Society from University of Twente.
