NWO-INSPiRED project wins NTD Innovation Prize

On 9 September 2021, the NWO-INSPiRED project was awarded the prestigious Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Innovation Prize. The award-winning proposal is built around the Schistoscope, a novel device that combines technical optics and specialised data-driven algorithms to create an integrated, portable, reliable smart optical diagnostic system for schistosomiasis. The INSPiRED team (a collaboration between TU Delft (IDE-3ME), LUMC, and three Sub-Saharan research partners) is honoured to receive the award and $20,000. They will use this money to continue testing and evaluating the Schistoscope in Nigerian primary schools and to help implement the device in the local healthcare system

Water for Impact Programme officially launched on 9 September

On September 9th the TU Delft | Water for Impact programme was launched at the Green Village. This programme is part of the TU Delft | Global Initiative and centers on valuing water, specifically the need for safe and affordable water for everyone around the world. Researchers and students collaborate beyond faculty boundaries, and beyond their own water discipline.

Kornelis Blok announced as TU Delft | Global Initiative Steering Committee Member

‘It’s been surprising to see what determination, science, and solidarity can really do. In literally four months we were able to go from nothing to a working machine, produced in a country that supposedly cannot feed its own population.’ Diego Quan, founder of non-profit Respira-Guatemala, sometimes cannot fully believe the success his team has had in setting up a local production line and assembling and delivering ventilators to Guatemala this past summer. The non-profit partnership in Guatemala with help from dr. Gerwin Smit and Project Inspiration of the TU Delft aim to produce around 100 ventilators by the end of this year, and another 160 in the first five months of 2021.
