REIMAGINING ENGINEERING FOR INDIGENOUS RIGHTS

As part of our seed fund funding by the Climate Action Programme, we have organized a new event to commemorate Columbus day, aiming for its re-signification as the day of solidarity with Indigenous people. For doing so, we have programmed an interesting panel to discuss the ethics and rights surrounding Critical Raw Materials for energy transition around the question: how can we reimage the role of engineering in supporting/enforcing Indigenous rights (i.e., free, prior, and informed consent) in CRM mining projects for energy transition?

The line-up:

  1. Chatuileo Tranamil – Indigenous Mapuche, Activist and Foundational member of the Indigenous Liberation Movement
  2. David Peck – Vice Chair of the Critical Raw Materials Group at TU Delft
  3. Jaco Quist - Sustainable Innovation & Development  at TU Delft

Facilitator: Andrea Gammon – Assistant Professor - Ethics of Technology

The format includes an opening presentation of our sponsored by the Climate Action Fund, followed by the panel. We are covering with our funds Chatuileo fees as an indigenous expert. Panelists are asked to make a short positioning statement/pitch, followed by a facilitated dialogue.

This will be followed by an optional workshop designed by Anna Melnyk collabortors:

  1. Myra Colis - Indigenous Igorot, ILM & Technical law expert
  2. Enseline Lenahan - Indigenous Alifuru, ILM & Indigenous right advocat
