"Cool and Clean Buildings" by AnneMarie Eijkelenboom

Changing outdoor conditions due to Climate Change, such as more intensive heatwaves, increase risks of indoor heating and accumulation of indoor air pollution and their effect on health of the occupants. During the lecture, you will gain insight in methods for field studies on indoor environments, and the first main research questions for the Flagship Cool and Clean Buildings.

AnneMarie Eijkelenboom is an Assistant Professor at the department of architectural engineering and technology at the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. As an architect, she has overseen the design of housing, healthcare buildings, and schools, before she started an Academic Career Track for the Flagship Cool and Clean Buildings in September 2023. Her research focuses on indoor environments and relations between health and comfort of occupants and building characteristics, particularly in changing contexts.

"Green of the future" by Marc Ottelé

Vertical greenery is still rarely used on (new) buildings, despite modern techniques, sustainable climbing aids, systems, possibilities and new insights into ecosystem services provided by them. This calls for “Green of the future”. During the lunch lecture insight is given in the different techniques of green facades and their possible benefits for new and existing buildings.

Marc Ottelé is an Assistant Professor at the Materials, Mechanics, Management  and design (3MD) department in the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. He is focused on the development and implementation of innovative solutions for improving the environmental performance and durability of building materials. His research interests encompass areas such as green building envelopes (i.e. green facades and roofs), bio-adapted construction materials, and the quantification of ecosystem functionalities in urban environments.
