Exhibition: Boerhaavewijk Haarlem

15 July 2023 00:00 till 03 September 2023 00:00 - Location: ABC Architectuurcentrum, Groot Heiligland 47 2011 EP Haarlem - By: Communicatie BK | Add to my calendar

From July 15 to September 3, two rooms of the ABC Architectuurcentrum will display plans made by students from TU Eindhoven and TU Delft, among others.

These are ideas for the Haarlem district of Schalkwijk and in particular for the Boerhaavewijk, Meerwijk and Europawijk. Also on display is a maquette that a number of architects and urban planners made last year at the invitation of the fictitious Ministry of MAAK. For this, the challenging and extreme task was: add 10,000 homes to a part of Schalkwijk.

In July 2023, master students from TU Delft graduated with the theme of the renewal of the Haarlem Boerhaavewijk. They are part of aE studio, a master program led by Thijs Asselbergs, professor of architectural engineering (aE). The graduate studio focuses on integral, innovative solutions for construction and architecture. It focuses on the topicality of current building challenges.

Boerhaavewijk

The renewal using Boerhaavewijk as an example is part of an approach in which students and aspiring architects conduct design research that can be generic for the whole of the Netherlands. After all, the design and structure of the post-war Boerhaave district is found in many places in the Netherlands. Various proposals were made for reuse of existing (residential) buildings, improving energy systems, public space, integration of more bio-based materials (wood among others) and adding new collective functions for the district and its surroundings.
