We are absolutely thrilled to announce a truly special event that promises to be a highlight of the year: the BK Talks featuring the renowned artist and activist, Ai Weiwei.

This event is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting meaningful conversations and encouraging knowledge sharing within our community and is being organized in collaboration with Extreme Architecture.

On September 28th, students and employees of the faculty will have the opportunity to engage in a conversation with Ai Weiwei steered by Dean Dick van Gameren. Questions for Ai Weiwei can be sent to expo-bk@tudelft.nl until September 15th.
This extraordinary discussion promises to provide profound insights and empower attendees with a unique perspective from one of the world's most influential artists and activists.

Ai Weiwei: A Brief Introduction

Born in Beijing in 1957, Ai Weiwei is a globally recognized artist and activist who has made a significant impact on the worlds of contemporary art and social commentary. He is known for his diverse body of work that challenges political and social norms, addresses issues such as freedom of expression, government censorship, human rights, and the global refugee crisis.

Ai Weiwei's fearless commitment to speaking out against injustice and his innovative artistic vision have made him a central figure in contemporary art and activism. He gained international recognition for his involvement in the design of the Beijing National Stadium, also known as the "Bird's Nest," for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and his activism has often led to conflicts with Chinese authorities, including periods of detainment and surveillance.

In addition to his visual art, Ai Weiwei has directed and produced several documentary films, including "Human Flow" (2017), which explores the global refugee crisis and sheds light on the experiences of displaced people worldwide.
